Our history books are full of facts and figures that tell one version of history. Oral history allows us to flesh out the facts with the people and stories that add life and vibrancy to history. Oral history gives a voice to every day people and allows those who have been silenced to speak out. Oral history is an opportunity to create social justice and to encourage connection and empathy with others.
At The Story Collector, we like to encourage people to think beyond the traditional use of oral history as an underused resource for hsitorians and ask how can we use this resource to connect people to their history, create conversations, and build community.
The Story Collector is available for oral history commissions, oral history community project co-ordination, and can also facilitate story sharing events for your community.
